FWIW, I was speaking to a VW tech here in Boulder, and he says that unless the pitting is really severe he does not replace or repair the head, he uses the *black* head gasket sealer that VW sells with replacement head gaskets. He says that he has been doing this for something like 4 years, ever since VW came out with the *black* sealer. He has not had a customer come back with leaky heads with the *black* sealer. He says that when he buys a rebuild WBX form VW he replaces the head gaskets and uses the *black* sealer, because the rebuilds do not come with it. He is a fully credentialed VW Master Tech. And I would say probably 50% of his business is Vanagons. YMMV!!

I'm not saying I believe it....I'm saying he believes it.

Cory Wanna sell me your Syncro Westy for $13,000?
