The best way to keep an aux. battery charged is by using a battery isolator. The alternatorc then can be wired to charge both batteries, but the isolator prevents the aux. accessories from drawing on the main battery. Check out www.surepower.com. The isolator I have in my 90 GL is made by them. You need to make one simple mod. to your alternator (basically just cutting one wire), and the isolator can be mounted inside the engine compartment. My aux. battery sits under the rear seat and powers the fridge and an accessory outlet.
