I know this doesn't help much but on Friday I saw a Burgundy '85 (or newer) Weekender in Toronto with a front hitch, it looked like about 1 1/2" square. I did the URL for the Toronto Vanagon Club (www.vanagon.org) under the wiper. If the owner contacts us I'll let you know what I find out...
