I drive my vanagon about 45 miles one way to work everyday .When I get to work I get this very faint smell of burnt oil at the drivers door in the compartment but not outside the van .I have a leaky valve cover gasket but it is not getting on anything hot. The smell is strong the longer I drive. What gives?

I had a dealer overtighten my wheel bearings once. I know the smell is a bit different, but I just wanted to throw that in the mix. Couldn't smell it on the highway, but when I hit the exit ramp, nice strong smell, and then...boom.

Lost a hubcap, bearing cover, fractured spindle, warped disc, wrecked bearings. Fritz is all better now, though, along with the recently recalibrated motor, thanks in no small part to Lehmann's Auto in Bechtelsville, PA.
