Subject: what to do with corroded heads *and* block?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed

Well Volks, my 90GL's heads are shot and the block under the head gasket has a fair amount of corrosion as well, and this on only 65k miles. Maybe it was all the short commutes with the engine barely warming up, but that's a story for another day.

As I see it, my options from cheap to exorbitant are: - JBWelding (my VW shop is not real keen on this, read: don't wanna do it) - getting a new/reman waterboxer at (I'm guessing) $2500, plus installation? - putting in a Tiico conversion at about $3500, plus installation

I'm going by the shop tomorrow to get a closer look at the corrosion on the block to see just how bad it is before I decide anything, but I'm wondering what others have done in this situation. You guys *have* seen corrosion like this, right? Good...I don't want to be the only one... :-)

How much of a PITA is it to do any of the engine installations myself? Never done one, but I've taken plenty of things apart on my Scirocco...
