I'm sure someone can give you more concise info on the radiator, but here's what I know from recently doing a radiator swap on my 1983 watercolled Vanagon. The only radiator I could get from the authorized VW dealer was the one from South Africa. I was told german genuine VW raditors were not available anymore.

The SA radiator is aluminium as compaired to my original radiator which was copper. I am pleased with the quality and the cooling is much more effiecnt that the old copper one, but mostly because the old one was clogged I'm sure.

I got mine from Kamelback VW in Pheonix AZ for about $350. Which is about $55 below dealer list. Keamelback says they'll sell Vanagon partd for 20% above their cost. And they ship.

I believe some list vendors sell the genuine VW SA unit for about $300. (Problem is they only pack it in one sheet of newspaper--and yes,I'm kidding about the inferior packing--we're alll friends here, right?)

FWIW the swap went without a hitch--pretty straight forward.

That's pretty much what I know. Jeff 83.5 Westy LA, CA
