In the Vanagon archives on week 4 of July 2000 is a discussion on the topic of switched power for your stereo. I want to thank Stuart MacMillan for his "how to" posting. I followed his advice regarding using the DPDT switch to provide an alternative between switched power and constant power. The result is that now for the first time I can listen to the radio or CD (with the motor off ) without having the fuel injector pump energized and the dash lights flashing. Nice!

I found the "key in ignition" wire that Mark Mages talked about but decided against going that route because I like the radio tuning off with the motor in everyday use.

The SPDT switch is all you really need but at Radio Shack the DPDT switch was the only one available as a rocker switch. All of the SPST switches were toggle switches and I didn't want that because the other dash switches are rockers.
