SOME TIME AGO I SAW THIS 85 VANAGON ON A USED CAR LOT WITH SQUARE HDLTS I THOUGHT IT AN 86 I ASKED THE SALESMAN IF I COULD SWAP THE HEADLIGHTS WITH MY 85 GL PLUS 200$ HE SAID OK. SO AS I REMOVED THEM I NOTED THAT THEY WERE FACTORY INSTALLED AND NOT MODIFIED, THAY HAD THE RIVITED BRAKETS AND 3 LARGE YELLOW CONNECTORS FOR EACH SIDE. I REALLY LIKE THE LOOK OF THE SQUARE HEADLIGHTS ON MY DOVE BLUE 85 GL IT LOOKS JUST LIKE AN 86. THE BENTYLY BOOK SHOWS THEM AS FROM 85. SO IT MUST BE VERY LATE IN 85 THAT THEY  MADE THE CHANGE.
