My '83 (water cooled) is always cold in winter.  I attribute this problem to
the large interior and 17 year old door seals.  Actually, the heater puts
out very warm air, but the van never gets really warm in below freezing
temperature (and my kids complain a lot).  I had this same problem on my old
(1977) Chevy vans (I had three of them).

Is this a common problem, or is there a specific problem with my van?

Is there a seperate heater core, or does the radiator serve this function?

Finally, my rear heater does not put out warm (much less hot) air.  I have
always wondered if there a problem with air trapped in the heater core (I
had this problem with a Chevy).  Is it possible that there is an air trap in
my rear heater, and if so, how can I solve this problem?

I do have my coolant at the proper level, and have no problem with over
heating in the summer (although I do "use" more than a normal amount of
coolant).
