Something to consider... This is a WATERCOOLED engine. That surface should, I repeat, SHOULD never see temps anywhere close to 250 deg F. (Design temp is 192 deg F.) If it does, I suspect that you have a more serious problem than a bit of pitting. (And I just ignore it unless it's *really* severe. The 'black goop' works fine!
