No need to do that, as all of the parts will come out the top. There are a few plastic parts in there, and some are a bit delicate. You'll need to either figure out which parts broke (easy by visual inspection) or simply order a full set of all of the plastic parts that attach to the shift lever. I've always simply ordered all of the connected parts and figured that those that aren't broken will soon. Should be around thirty bucks.
