Hello Volks I am trying to determine if the VW cat converter is a 2 way or a 3 way converter. The 3 way uses a Reduction Catalyst employing Platinum and Rhodiun to reduce NOx emissions in addion to the standard "2 way" Oxidization Catalyst which employs Platinum to reduce unburned HC and CO emissions. Modern converters I am told tend to be 3 way. I believe all converters have the Oxidization Catalyst to reduce HC and CO emissions.
My Subaru powered Weekender failed for high NOx emissions which means I need to use a 3 way converter that has the Reduction Catalyst. The converter on my present exhaust was apparently gutted by the previous owner. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Gary Gary McEachern, Reading Ma.
