Why not look for simple things first? What weight oil are you using? The flickering started after the last oil change; did you do anything different then? You might want to heed Stuart MacMillan's advice and install an oil pressure gauge. In your case it will eliminate the guessing. Sounds like the slight rise in idle speed raised the pressure above the signal limit.
