I had the same problem... it's not particularly hard to do... picked up a 12 volt light with integral switch at an RV store... they have a selection... picked a low profile model... I don't think you mentioned what model van you have... I have a westy with A/C so I mounted it on the under side of the A/C cabinet... easy to reach from the rear hatch opening and the rear seat... just run unswitched wires to it.... switch it on when you need it...
