just a couple points of clarification:

. On the vanagon, fires stem > from the fuel line bursting-

actually they don't need to burst... a small pin hole or decomposition around the clamp is sufficient due to the fuel being pressureized to about 40 psi....

the fuel pump maintains the lines are a > fairly high pressure so old crusty lines need to be replaced

actually, I've read that some of the failed hoses don't look old and crusty at all... ... best to replace then if they're 10 years old no matter what they look like...
