Very interesting.... perhaps it would be a good idea to just replace the fuel pressure regulator along with the fuel lines as preventative maintenance...

If the regulator is working > correctly, you should only have around 30 psi on these lines--not really > that high.

I don't know about your '85, but I'm pretty sure the specification for later Vanagons is about 40 psi.... don't have my Bentley here to check... maybe someone else can....
