Stuart makes the case ( a good one btw) about not wanting to have a hybrid. I'd want to counter, not as an attack mind you, that you can:

1. Use other vanagon but still , well known VW components, 2. Document the two major grafted systems (pre-existing Vanagon components & donor I4 Eng. block), 3. It's not really rocket science.

I'd encourage you to consider it, but I'd also encourage anyone with a Vanagon, making a cross country trip, and/or owns any older car to be able to do most repairs themselves. If the thing throws a rod, well then, but if it busts a coolant hose or has a cracked water pump then by all means develop your Mr. Fix-It skills.

Lessens reliance on Lou down the block, fine gent though he is, and even if you are getting it done in a shop you have a better time of diagnosing, explaining, getting fixed when you have more than just a clue.

So, two things- an All VW based hybrid is not Frankenstein's Monster & Develop your greasy thumb for your own sake.

Thems my thinks, TBerk
