John; Are you perhaps grounding the radio's output inadvertently? Are you using the Vanagon's stock wiring to the rear speakers? These share a wire that maybe is not tolerable by your unit. Does the unit have a good ground? What is the system voltage? In my youth I installed a stereo that, as it turn out, was only grounded by the base of the antenna. When I stopped it leaned forward and the radio would die. When I went fast the wind blew it back and the radio screamed to life! Not that this could be your problem but I thought it would cheer you up. #;-/
