If your using stock diameter tires, (25.5"), 3800 RPM gets you 68 MPH. Yes your speedometer over-reads a bit. If you run around 400 rpm or more for extended periods of time you r oil temp will get to about 260F or more. Especially if it is overfilled. Water temp will not be problem if the cooling system is working properly.

Just wondering about how fast my van isn't. I can get it up to 70mph on a good day (ie. pancake flat and no wind). Anything over 70mph puts me around 3800-3900RPM. This is the only Vanagon I've owned and the only one I've ever been in. Should my van be running at those RPM's for the aforementioned speeds????
