I installed an Amplified FUBA on SyncroBeast several years ago. Just like the 16 valve and other "hot" VW's have. It works great.

Drill the hole for the antenna 10 inches forward of the back of the roof. It needs to be there to clear the AC components, and to be far enough forward for connector parts to clear the headliner.

I ran the antenna lead up the windshield pillar and back along the driver side (left) roof channel edge to the back of the van. The antenna lead that came with the antenna was just long enough. It's a trick to get the lead up the pillar, then another trick to feed it in the channel along with the other wires to the back but it CAN BE DONE without dropping the headliner. Access thru the lights in the roof corner helps, I may have dropped the liner a bit over the door ONLY. I believe I fed a piece of 12 gauge house electrical wire in from the back first (section by section) to attach the antenna lead to and pull it thru. You can't make a FAT connection where the two connect or the interface won't fit thru some of the holes.

Hope this helps anyone else that wants to try mounting a FUBA to their Vanagon.

later.
