You can, but the sensor lifetime will be only a few minutes if you do...ask Jon Casey how I know -- he contributed a sensor to the cause of knowledge :(

Ayuh. Copper-based, so I've heard. The stuff that comes on Bosch sensors is dark-gray. I would expect the stuff to be prominently labelled "sensor-safe" or words to that effect.
