we used to drive with 8 people in a chevy beaville all the time.

granted, 8 people in a van that size isn't really all that many. however, when you pack in a drumset, guitar amplifiers, speakers, boxes of records and t-shirts, consider that there's only seating for 5 people and the other three people have to be in the loft that sits 16 inches below the roof, and then remember that we were driving around the country in the middle of the summer for weeks at a time, it's a little more impressive.

my rule now is to never put more than 8 people in the vanagon, and never for more than a few miles. 5 people max for a camping trip...
