Surely there are plenty of aftermarket interior lights (eg Hella) available. They could be attached to the roof siderails or bows (careful, no butcherous jobs please) and wired either to a dash switch or the courtesy system.

I fitted larger chesp domelights to my 57 in place of the originals, and what a difference. I also added an engine-compartment light to my 66.

I will be looking at this too.
