I couldn't find a socket of the right size that was deep enough when I had to change the switch on my '84. Since I was 3000 miles from home, I decided to improvise. You can remove the switch with a crescent wrench. Just turn the wrench 90 degrees from the usual, so that it fits down over the switch, with the handle pointing out the front of the van. Then use an open end wrench that matches the thickness of the crescent wrench head to unscrew the switch.
