I have also been told this by reputable mechanics but have also seen them installed and talked to owners. This one is a toss-up IMHO.

Lots of debate on this one. For mine I run a normal FLAPS battery for the engine and a Marine Deep Cycle for the camper.

While you have the engine out do as much as you can afford and then do more with some plastic. The more work you do now to your Westy in the engine area the less you will have to cuss later. Also the AC pump in an Air-cooled engine might cause your engine to not cool efficiently. The engine tin shroud that surrounds the motor and pushes air through the heads will not cool the heads/motor as well unless the engine tin is complete with no leaks. The AC pump instal requires you to cut the tin (even for the tightest fit), this compromises the tin cooling effect.
