When I first bought my westy in Germany in 1985... I drove it like a German... foot to the floor... sometimes the bus would actually do 100 mph ... seldom was I traveling less than 80.. the engine lasted 30000 miles.. with regular 3000 mile oil changes and by the book dealer maintenance..

The bus has over 200k on the next engine which I try to keep between 3500 and 3800 rpms

this is anecdotal but what isn't
