Hi Rob,

I've just changed my dashboard lights by using a permanent blue marker pen(Artline 70 - Xylene Free). The effect is much better than boring white.

To do the job you have to remove the outer shell housing over the instrument cluster and remove the two globes for each pod in the cluster. Be gentle when doing this or you could damage the plastic and circuit. I found using pliers the safest way to remove the instrument lights.

When you have removed the lights, start using the permanent blue marker pen on the glass part of the globe. I made sure I covered all of glass area.

Pop them back in and wait for the evening.

If you don't like the colour use a bit of methylated spirits or turpentine to remove the colour and try another colour.

By the way the colour is much softer on the eye and it gives the instruments a classier look. I think red would also be a good colour, I recall doing it on a Passat I had twenty years ago and it looked good as well.
