I did this about 4 years ago. Cut out the rear portion of the metal pipes that were rusted out, replaced with 1 1/4" heater hose. Easy job, no problems, still going strong four years later. Cost: about $8.00 for hose and clamps, plus anti-freeze.

I've not run into this problem yet myself, but is there something wrong with just running -say 5/8" - heater hose from front to back? Chris
