Well, I've never really been hasseled either way. I don't tend to hit really busy border crossings, so I tend to get the guys who are more bored than anything. The most fun is coming back from Arizona in January with 2 bikes on the roof. Hit the border at -30*C and watch the Canadian official's eyes widen.

HOWEVER, I will say that this new power the U.S. Border Officials have of denying you entry to the U.S. FOR NO REASON - conviction without trial, and then being able to ban you from re-entry to the U.S. FOR FIVE YEARS makes me very nervous about crossing into the U.S. There is no appeal process, and best of all, they don't even need a very good reason. There was a big write up from the Globe and Mail on our Corporate Travel and Security site about this. Essentially, if they think you are going to the States for any other reason than you say, they can ban you. Some poor kid from Toronto got banned because the Border Guard didn't think the paperwork from the U.S. College he was attending was authentic. Banned. 5 years. No appeal. Too bad.
