Hella makes the VIsion Plus H4's which ARE DOT approved for street use in the USA! They say so on the box and in their advertising. To remain street legal you have to stay with 55/60 watt bulbs and no higher, and no fancy colored crap or chances are the hwy patrol will harass you. The Hella's are stamped on the assemble DOT appoved, much like the four round headlight system VW Golf GTI's had in the late eighties/early nineties, again DOT approved and made by Hella (but a Euro design and replacement bulbs) Greg

I have European H4's in all of my vehicles in California and have driven with H4's for over 20 years. However, tolerant the California Highway Patrol is on these type of lights, they are still not legal for use in the US per the DOT.
