>Ive been using coke AND Pepsi to neutralize acids when >i had no baking soda for some time now. I never new >about rust bolts and the others. dissolving carbon dioxide into water produces a weak acid called carbonic acid. This is what is produced when raindrops fall through the atmosphere; they absorb CO2 as they go, and if they land on limestone they slowly dissolve it. coke cannot be alkaline, so cannot neutralize an acid. however a weak acid solution CAN be used to further dilute a stronger acid solution (though battery acid is pretty dilute too).
