I don't have a Thing (Type 181) but I do have an Iltis (Type 183) - cross a Thing with the off-roading capabilities of a Unimog, add a 1.7L water cooled Golf GTI engine and a really good heating system and you have and Iltis. Not to knock my Syncro, but the Iltis can go way more places! Only my friends 404S Unimog will go more places! Top comes off, windshield folds down, doors come off, 140km/h top speed and a real attention getter! I sell them starting at $9000 USD for a decent condition one.

well, now that my plan to buy a Syncro Vanagon has fallen apart (I already have a 90GL) I'm feeling an urge to buy a Thing. Does anybody have one? Comments? Good web resources? I'd appreciate anything, as I don't know much about these vehicles. --Jay |
