This is service Bulletin is for resent customers of Boston Engine that have bought 1.9 and 2.1 engines with front pulleys installed. In an effort to assist customers with there engine installations I have recently started installing front pulleys and torqued the pulley bolt to 258 pds. for those did not have the proper torque wrench. It has been brought to my attention that I have installed at least one 1.9 pulley on a 2.1 engine. The timing notch for the 1.9 engine is 5 degrees after TDC. The timing notch for the 2.1 engine is 5 before TDC. As the pulley spins clock wise the timing notch on the 2.1 should be before the 0 mark and the 1.9 should be after the 0 mark. The 0 mark is a dimple located away from the engine case but at the edge of the first groove nearest the engine case.

the symptoms of this is minor hesitation and poor performance

the cure for this is to file a new notch an equal distance on the other side of the 0 notch and paint it with a bright paint mark to make it clear that is the proper timing mark
