Subject: Closed Idle Switch / Fuel Line Warning (again)

I was poking around in the engine compartment of the 90 Multi Van (auto) and smelled a little gas. This van just turned 50,000 miles and the fuel lines are soft and pliable. That did not keep one of the ends from cracking slightly and letting fuel leak out around the fuel rail. I trimmed the end and resecured it. Keep checking your fuel lines even if they are in good shape.

One other thing I noticed is that the open throttle switch "clicks" when you open the throttle all the way but when the throttle closes the closed throttle switch does not seem to click. I have seen where the adjustment is. Trying to get the 2 thousandths to 4 thousandths setting seems next to impossible. What does this switch actually do? Any good tricks for setting it? Would this affect the miserable around town mileage I have been getting?

thanks in advance, Craig the Gorge VW club gorgevwclub.com
