An observation:  In December I decided to replace the windshield  in my  160K Jetta (glued in) simply because it was so sandblasted that I could not see when sun or headlights were coming in. Made a huge difference.  Money well spent.   What I also noticed that after the glue had set for several days, the entire body structure was much more rigid.  All of the creaks, groans and rustling that came from the windshield and dashboard area were gone. I guess the previous glue or epoxy had fatigued or failed.  I knew that windshields were "structural members", but I didn't realize that it was this important.  Our Vanagon also creaks and groans the same way.  Do the rubber windshield gaskets used in the Vanagon allow the same kind of strutural support, or do they just prevent leaks?  Anyone know?
