Subject: Rough Idle on cold start, Oil Smells like Gasoline
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

For some time, I have been annoyed by rough idle on a cold start.....always sounds like one cylinder has to much gas. Gets ok after warm-up. This morning I went to start-up but as is my habit I checked the oil first (I do this daily as a pre-startup ritual before the first run of the day). For what ever reason I decided to smell the oil. It smelled like raw fuel. Didn't seem runny or anything like that, but sure smelled strongly of gas.

That worries me. If I've a leaking injector, it seems the raw fuel is leaking into the cylinder from the head and past the rings to drain into the oil sump or pan. Is my logic here correct? If so, what procedure should I follow to check it, and then repair it if necessary?

All comments appreciated!!

John Rodgers
