Subject: SVX available in New Zealand, complete car undamaged

In Dunedin there's a metallic-reddish 1992 or 93 SVX running around, being used as an engineering workshop hack. Sold new here, it cost then $117 000 (~$51 500US); present owner bought it 7 years ago for $65 grandNZ.

The autotrans had a factory fault and failed at 40000km, clutch failure. Trans replaced under factory warranty, blew again 1 WEEK later. Replaced for same failure another 5 times before problem traced to Taiwanese seals used. US seals finally fitted, no problems since.

The car is owned by Saunders Engineering ph 03-456-1488. It has minor dents etc and the owner doesn't know whether to sell it (a dealer offered him $14g, another source told me) or restore it. He will sell if offered the "right" price, though when I asked how much he said "no clue".

He says he did Christchurch to Dunedin (365km) one night, including a gas/hamburger stop, in 2hr 35min, about 4:00AM. He says the speedo stopped at 265kmh but it would accelerate on another 500rpm past this. Said its best acceleration was over 150kmh.

Probably too good to be used as a donor car, and will almost certainly be a collectable before too long. But a Subaru-loving listee might want it as a going concern. If I could afford it I'd certainly be keen. These cars have everything, they go, they are reliable and they go.

SVXs are 4WD.
