Subject: Headrests don't stay up!!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Hello Listers,

Per some comments recently made on the list, I found a local scrapyard with a couple of Merkur Xr4ti chassis in North Denver and acquired 1 pair of gray leather headrests for my Syncro Westfalia. Upon removing the original headrests, I discovered that whatever mechanism is supposed to be built into the seats (maybe a spring clip of some sort) which holds the headrests in position is gone. Apparently, in the six years I have owned this Syncro, I've never tried to raise the headrests! The black plastic housing in which the headrest posts are inserted has a slot in it where it appears some type of spring may have originally resided. The question is, what keeps the headrests in position? How much of a pain are these to install? As a quick-fix, and to see if I like the Merkur headrests, I am using a small hoseclamp on the headrest post to keep it at a desirable height.

Thanks, Jon B Kanas Longmont, Colorado Cultural Center of the Universe 303-678-0658 kanas@qadas.com
