Subject: 2.1L crankshaft pulley bolt torque

While a lot of "homebrew" solutions are available on our list and they work, the 2.1L crank pulley bolt really needs the VW special tool. Due to the very high force involved and the grim consequences of the crank pulley bolt ever loosening while driving, the tool shown on Bentley pg. 13.35 should ALWAYS be used.

#Tool 3149 is 3 pieces; Pad, alignment plate, socket & handle and allows safe & reliable crank pulley bolt service with the engine in or out of the vehicle. I have this tool in new condition and it's for sale.

I also have the following WBX engine building tools in new condition for sale:

Tool #3159 - piston wrist pin ridge reamer (Bentley pg. 13.47)

Tool #3091 - Piston wrist pin remover (Bentley pg. 13-44/46/47)

Tool #3090 - Connecting rod support (Bentley pg. 13.46/47)

Tool #3092 - Cylinder extractor (Bentley pg. 13.44)

At times it's a fun challenge to find alternatives to the use of factory tools but in the case of WBX assembly, there is far too much at stake to sadly learn later that using the factory tool(and the related procedure) was actually the "cheapest" way to do the job. Contact me if interested.

Regards, John
