Pat, things to look at according to the VW Vanagon Protraining manual for non-CAL AFC ARE: For poor idle, check: Auxiliary Air regulator Cylinder temp sensor injectors Exhaust gas recirculation Deceleration air valve Full Throttle Switch Air flow Sensor cold start valve Poor performance, excessive fuel consumption: Cylinder head temp sensor fuel pressure regulator air flow sensor full throttle switch exhaust gas recirculation injectors cold start valve A vacuum leak anywhere in the system after the AFM will cause you to also have a poor idle and high fuel consumption as well.
