This engine was never turboed as standard, but is a slightly-modified version of the nondiesel 2.8 (LB28?). The 280ZX turbo and manifold bolt straight onto the LD28, no modifications required. Apart from the LD possibly becoming a bit delicate with the increased heat/compression/power/torque, i haven't heard of any great problems. >> Apples and oranges, I'm afraid.. I've turbo supercharrced the Nissan SD22 and SD 25's when installed in Land Rovers..other than some hairum-scarum with the vacuum governers it's a simple and long lived installation..HOWEVER the Nissan engines are full blowen diesels with iron head etc. The VW is one tough petrol motor converted to diesel...WORLD of difference there... I was talking to a fellow once who was part of the program when the SD22's were actually "Chrysler-Nissan".. They KNEW people were turboing the poor things in boats and they never saw one comeback for being boosted from 60 to about 100 hp... the VW's can't keep their heads on WITHOUT the turbo...
