Hi gang --- seems there's some problem with my VIN. According to VW Canada it is not valid --- they are very unhelpful as to details as to why. According to the various sites on the web my VIN is both valid and accurate --- down to the checksum character about whose calculation I now know more than I wished to. I had a buddy in the auto wrecking biz run the VIN through his database and it comes out valid and accurate there too. The archives tell me that the VIN is also on the fram "in back of the frame beam behind the right front wheel". Can anyone amplify on this location and also what I'm looking for? Are the numbers stamped in the steel (and rusty) or on a metal plate etc. I'm going through this because Ontario is checking all VIN's in their record for accuracy --- and the one on my registration is different from the one on my insurance which is different from the one on my Westy --- Argghhh!!! Thanks, Doug Alcock '84 Westy Toronto, Canada |
