It's not hard to join the list -- there's no approval policy, the request goes to gerry and you get back a confirmation email. Reply to it with the word "ok" as the message (this is explained in the msg you receive) and you've joined. Then if you wish you can set NOMAIL.

You could do this from your I-cafe, but chances are you'd have established an email identity to use before you left, and would have already set up the list subscription at that time.
