With any instrumentation, you have to first establish the veracity of the readings, especially if telemetry is involved. To remove this uncertainty, I would connect a mechanical pressure gauge, which is known to be good, directly to the oil pressure port. Then, the oil pressure at various engine speeds and temperatures can be read with some level of confidence. Should you have to buy a gauge, I would recommend to shy away from the cheap gauges from the Pacific Rim because they bring a level of uncertainty with them. If you are looking for a bargain, surplus industrial vendors have quality gauges by the truckload.
