The same could be said for probably 50% of all the Vanagon posts. Couldn't
they have found what they need in the archives?? In five years we have
covered just about everything. If people only asked about things that have
not been covered, things specific to Vanagon, and current events the list
traffic would be drastically reduced. We're subscribed to the list to
interact with cool (you have a Vanagon so I know you're cool) people. If
all you are looking for is hard facts about Vanagons, then why would you
bother wading through this daily morass, since the hard facts you need are
probably in the archives.
I guess my point is that sometimes I don't want to know what Thing drivers
think of their Thingies, I want to know what my fellow Vanagon drivers think
about Things. People who drive Vanagons tend to share my perspective (from
the drivers seat at least), but for all I know people who drive Things are a
bunch of whack-o's.
In my experience tangents are a natural and inescapable aspect of
un-moderated lists. Once you've been on a list for awile, tangents become
much more tolerable, and even interesting.
