The list membership is pretty good about policing its own ranks, and when things get
out of hand the membership recognizes it and says something about it, usually
sufficient to the point that in the old days, Coyote (newbies probably don't know
him), our previous moderator, would kill the thread. If it was truly obnoxious, he
wouldn't wait, and using his own judgment would kill a thread. That is what he was
there to do. And if someone was truly a butt about things Coyote would deal with
him/her) as well, usually in the form of banishment from the list. And Tom
Carrington, present moderator(pehaps not the correct choice of word here) does the
same thing occasionally. But pretty much overall the list stays centered and it moves
along. Only when a topic really starts moving off in the wrong direction and doesn't
stick to the rules within reasonable bounds does any action have to be taken.
