OK, there's a guy in these parts who specializes in old microbuses. Has a lot of contacts who do too. One of the people he's met along the way is a guy who lives in Idaho or Oregon or something. Vietnam war vet. Works at a beer factory. Has an old microbus with a substantial list of modifications - lawn chairs for front seats (easier to pull them out and sit outside the van with them), a small pot bellied stove (to augment the lack of heat), a pull start arrangement (the starter died, and his wife begrudges every cent he spends on it, so this was his improvised fix, so he has to get a real good windup to get the thing started. His wife says he can spend the money on a starter, as she says "What if someone SEES you doing that?". He was contemplating some sort of kick-start arrangement) and the best part is the hole in the floor of the van for his 10" ice auger. Yup, loads the van up with beer from work, takes his dog, drives out to the lake, gets the stove warm, turns the lawn chair around and drops a line. He says if you've caught 12 fish before you've drank 12 beer, either you're not drinking enough, or the fishing is incredible. Every year, he makes up his own Christmas card with a picture of him, his dog and the bus and sends it out with a nice letter.

Happy friday. Keith Calgary
