Don't do it!

The 1.6 NA is a different block than the 1.6 TD - the TD has better cooling for the pistons and a few other upgrades. Why not just install a Quantum or Golf 1.6TD and do it the factory route?

I will be getting a 1.6TD equipped Transporter when I am in Germany later this week. The thing I want to play with is a BIG intercooler (Audi 200) and tweaked injector timing. With a 1.9TD and these mods you can almost achieve 1.9 TDI performance! The other thing I want to experiment with is the possibility of using Natural Gas under full throttle conditions for extra power - this is sort of like Nitrous Oxide for gasoline engines. Supposedly some of the big trucks out there are starting to go this route.

Was wondering if anyone had looked into adding an aftermarket turbo or supercharger to a stock vanagon diesel? IF this could be done for even a couple grand this might be a good solution for those doggy but solid diesels. Maybe I assume too much, are the stock diesels good enough to consider spending this sort of money on? Will they hold up under the increased power?
