I have just come to possess a 1987 Vanagon GL. I don't know much about the 2.1 litre engine, but will be reading as y'all post so as to glean all of the knowledge I can.

It has 115K on it, and I don't think anything at all has been done to the engine since its birth. The AC works fine as does everything else thusfar.

Is it true the heads tend to go out about every 90K? Right now everything is running great and the temps are steady and cool.

If anyone out there has an 87 and can offer sage wisdom gained from experience feel free to toss it to me. I am liking driving this water heater.

For those of you that might ask...The Mothership is doing very well and at 186K that ain't bad.

Thanks, Charlie Ford
