The 2.1 L engine in my '88 GL burned a piston last year and given other problems I determined a rebuild or replacement was in order. Once the engine was removed, I opted to buy outright a locally built engine. It is installed and running fine. My question is about the left-over run out engine that I wish to rebuild.

The engine has a tag on it that says "Remanufactured in Canada" on the side of the case. I am curious as to significance of this. It raises questions!

1) Was the original engine replaced at some earlier date? The van had 86,000 mils on it when I bought it, and appeared to have spent most of its life in Georgia.

2) Can I rebuild this "Remanufactured in Canada" engine. I replaced it with a locally built one at about 90,000 miles.

3) On the Canadian Reman. do I need to have the case line bored and the crank turned for true and oversized bearings.

4) Is there need for concern with the case. When the piston burned through, there didn't seem to be any collateral damage. No rod damage, no case or main bearing boss damage, no obvious scoring on the crank...either main bearing areas or crank throw bearing areas.

I want to rebuild this engine per Lilley parameters but need to know what basics I should have concerns about before I start.
